Emilia Pérez Teaser Showcases Crime, Comedy, and Music with Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, and Karla Sofía Gascón

Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Adriana Paz star as four women on a quest for happiness in Jacques Audiard’s upcoming musical drama, Emilia Pérez. The teaser, released by Gomez on Monday, offers a glimpse into their lives as they navigate Mexico’s gritty underworld.

The one-minute, 36-second clip highlights Gascón as Emilia Pérez, who, after undergoing gender reassignment surgery, plans to fake her own death to start anew. Saldaña portrays Rita, a disillusioned lawyer who becomes entangled in a dark and dangerous situation as she helps Gascón’s character. Gomez’s character, Rita’s partner, appears in somber scenes that hint at the film’s complex narrative.

Gomez shared the teaser on X, describing Emilia Pérez as “an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations” from the visionary director Jacques Audiard. The film will be released in select theaters this fall and stream on Netflix in the US, UK, and Canada starting November 13.

Emilia Pérez premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May, where it competed and won the prestigious Cannes Jury Prize. The film is set to debut in French theaters on August 21.

The official synopsis of Emilia Pérez reveals: “Rita, an overqualified yet undervalued lawyer at a large firm more focused on defending criminals than seeking justice, finds herself with a surprising opportunity. Cartel leader Manitas hires her to help him withdraw from his criminal enterprise and fulfill a long-held dream of transitioning into the woman he has always wanted to be.”

In addition to Gomez, Saldaña, and Gascón, the film features Edgar Ramirez in a prominent role.
